Melbourne Now!

*Psssst!* Have you heard? There’s a spanking new exhibition in town! And it’s fun, fresh and exciting! Oh, did I also mention that it’s free?

Melbourne Now is the latest exhibition at the NGV and it runs pretty much through the whole of summer. The exhibition showcases the latest in art, culture, design and all other arty stuff that you can think of thats happening in Melbourne right now (More info here!) After spending the majority of Saturday cooped up at home, visiting the exhibition was a great reason for us to head out on a Sunday!

There is really lots in this exhibition to take in, we managed to only cover, I think a third of what was shown, especially considering that the exhibits spread over the 2 galleries ( the main St Kilda one and the Fed Square one). We were pretty impressed at the scale and the variety of what was shown. Plus there were lots of fun things for the kids to touch, feel and experience! There were lots of new, interesting sculptures in the sculpture garden, like this colourful looking gorilla one….

Here’s The Dude and Bugs playing peekaboo among one of them!

Lots of artistic flags in the big hall and a dance performance to catch if you happen to be around at the right time…..

There was a wall filled with tea towels….

A disco themed room with funky music and even funkier lighted floor panels! I felt like I was transported in time to the 7os for a brief moment!

Juan Ford’s You, me and the flock is a really cool exhibition where you get a pack of bird stickers…..

which you stick on the wall…..

And help to create an artwork featuring a flock of birds! Since Bugs is quite into stickers now, this exhibit was right up her alley! This was probably her most favorite one of the lot we saw today!

A close second was probably John Nixon’s The Donkey’s Tail Jnr where the kids get a chance to create a music score using stamps….

And then unleash their inner Mozart in the adjoining music room which has a variety of music instruments for them to try!

It was such a blast experiencing what we saw today! We’ll definitely be back to check out the rest of what we didn’t manage to cover this round for sure! This summer is going to pretty exciting I can tell! Till later everyone!
